Makar - Exclusive Sankranti Themed Kanjivaram Silk Sarees by Girish Lakshman

Makar is an ode to the rich tradition of festivals across all of India. The Sun moves from the Southern hemisphere to the Northern hemisphere and people across India celebrate the life giving Sun.

The Sarees have been conceived to capture the celebratory events that mark the festivities. From Lohri Dhols and Bonfire to Kite flying paraphernalia, Bull fighting, Rangoli or Kolam to the sugarcane harvest and the traditional Pongal panai each Saree represents a particular celebration. It was a great experience to learn about the transformation of a concept to its final form woven in beautiful Kanjivaram silks. Each of the six pieces is a brilliant tribute to the artisans and the historical richness of Indian handicrafts. Shobitam is a platform for designers from the amateur to the seasoned professional to express their creativity and passion.
